Ireland captain Rory Best looks set to play his final Six Nations game at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow, with the hooker admitting he’s “fairly certain” he will retire after the Rugby World Cup in Japan.
But is he expecting a big send-off like another former Ireland captain in Brian O’Driscoll? The former Leinster centre was given a rather extravagant send-off back in 2014, with a giant banner of him hanging from a blimp paraded on the pitch after his final home game.
Best will no doubt be hoping he can bow out with a win (and a miraculous Six Nations championship win on the final day) tomorrow, but don’t expect any giant banners of the Ulsterman.
“I don’t think anyone needs to say that.” Best laughed
“It would be like a scene out of Shrek.”
“Maybe leave that one off.”
Tomorrow’s fixture will also mark Joe Schmidt’s final home Six Nations game before he leaves his role as head coach. Maybe the IRFU can get a two for one on banners?
