Breach?
English giants Saracens are set to be investigated by Premiership Rugby to see if they have broken salary cap regulations following a four-month investigation by Sportsmail.
Premiership Rugby has said it will ‘look closely’ at material provided by the newspaper determine whether or not the two-time European champions are indeed operating within the rules of its £7million salary cap. The investigation found that millionaire owner Nigel Wray owns businesses with England stars Owen Farrell, Billy and Mako Vunipola, as well as Richard Wigglesworth, and has also co-owned houses with former Saracens players.
The investigation prompts questions about how the benefits that these players receive from these arrangements are accounted for in rules which regulate their salaries, which are set by Premiership Rugby Ltd (PRL). Sportsmail says they understand that rival club owners are ready to call for a full investigation into Saracens by PRL.
