Cardiff cauldron.
Wales laid down a serious marker in the Six Nations this evening, defeating previously unbeaten England 21-13 in Cardiff – ending their hopes of a Six Nations Grand Slam, while keeping their own alive.
Gatland’s men also made Welsh history with their record breaking 12th successive win on the trot, and are now firm favourites to win a Grand Slam this year.
Tries from Cory Hill and Josh Adams inside the final 12 minutes ensured a famous win at the Principality Stadium for Wales after a converted Tom Curry try, plus two Owen Farrell penalties, looked like it might be enough for England to get over the line.
After the game the New Zealander was asked about Wales’ performance on the night, and while he was impressed with his side, especially in the second-half – England didn’t impress him too much.
“We created a lot of problems in the first-half with our turnovers. I don’t think England created anything really; they didn’t put us under any pressure.” Gatland said
“We worked on our pick and go. We thought there was an opportunity to try and exploit England there, and obviously our aerial game was really good today too.”
Gatland also laughed and came back with a great response when asked about Wales being World Cup contenders now..
“Apparently not, if you listen to a lot of pundits out there.” Gatland joked
"It was a great second half from us"
