England are no doubt still buzzing following their massive 32-20 win over Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, but their historic victory has come at a massive cost.
Lock Maro Itoje was forced off late in the win with a leg injury, and it turns out – it’s a pretty nasty one. According to Chris Jones of RugbyPass, Itoje will be out for eight weeks after injuring medial ligaments.
This means he will miss the remainder of England’s Six Nations campaign, with Jones’ men still to face France, Wales and Scotland. Joe Launchbury and Courtney Lawes will not battle it out to replace the Saracens man.
“He (Maro) is going to be the best lock in the world so it’s a big loss.” Eddie Jones said.
“But we’ve got good depth. We’ve got Joe Launchbury ready to come back in, you saw Courtney come off the bench for us. We’ll have to fill his spot and guys will just to work that bit harder to cover his gap for how long he is out for.”
