Ireland head coach has absolutely no worries about England potentially targeting Robbie Henshaw this weekend, with the Leinster man set to play his first game for Ireland at fullback.
The 25-year-old has prior experience at fullback, but has played much of his rugby in the centre over the last few seasons. Schmidt is confident however, Henshaw will be able to deal with any threats and expects his teammates to help each other out.
“If they do…. I’m pretty sure Robbie’s got a pretty good response for that!” Schmidt said
“I don’t think anyone in our backfield is left alone. I think Keith [Earls] and Jacob [Stockdale] and Jordan [Larmour] if he’s on – they’ll offer plenty of support as well.”
“I think that’s part of the collective effort that you expect.”
The Ireland boss also revealed that slotting Henshaw in at fifteen has been in the pipeline for quite some time. Elliot Daly starts at fifteen for England this weekend in what should be an incredible battle between two British and Irish Lions.
