Moving on up.
All Blacks boss Steve Hansen revealed yesterday that he will officially be stepping down as head coach of New Zealand following the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
And with that leaves a vacancy for the hottest ticket in world rugby, with speculation already beginning to mount. One man who’s already admitted he’s interested is Crusaders boss Scott Robertson.
The former All Black has won back-to-back Super Rugby titles with the Canterbury-based franchise, and is without doubt one of the leading contenders for the role. His current assistant Ronan O’Gara reckons he’s the man for the job.
“Of course, yeah. I think it will definitely happen, there’s no doubt about it,” O’Gara told Stuff
“He’s made of the right stuff, Razor. He’s got great energy, charisma, ideas. He’s a leader of men. Yeah, it will happen.”
But where would that leave O’Gara? The former Munster and Ireland outhalf says he’s definitely interested in taking the top job at the Crusaders should Robertson leave for greener pastures. But he also hasn’t ruled out potentially joining him in the All Blacks set-up.
“Of course I would, yeah,” O’Gara said when asked if he would be interested in becoming the Crusaders’ head coach.
“But it’s all ifs and buts. I don’t deal in ifs and buts . . . I know what I’m doing for this campaign and that’s all that bothers and interests me. I’m happy doing what I’m doing. It’s ifs and buts for Razor. But he was the guy that gave me the break here.”
“Who knows, I could go where ever he goes next.”
