It’s hard to single out any player from Ireland’s heroic 16-9 win over the All Blacks on Saturday, but it’s even harder to overlook just how good Peter O’Mahony was on the night.

The Ireland flanker left absolutely everything he had out there, playing a key role in Ireland’s win. He dominated in the lineout, saved a certain try and made the two biggest turnovers of the game.

Former Ireland captain Donal Lenihan was asked about O’Mahony’s incredible performance on Against The Head last night, and he hit the nail on the head when describing the Munster captain.

“It’s rare you get the balance [between the snarl and the cold-blooded thinking].” Lenihan said.

“You look at his lineout skills and ability then. You saw when himself and Devin Toner went off, the difference that made.”

“There’s just a dog in him – you either have that or you don’t. He’s just this inspirational figure.”

“People say, ‘does he talk a lot?’ He doesn’t, he just controls by his actions.”
