Back in action.
Former Saracens hooker Schalk Brits has officially come out of retirement and signed for the Stormers ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby season.
The South African hung up his boots at the end of the 2017/18 Premiership season, but was a shock call-up to Rassie Erasmus’s Springbok Rugby Championship squad.
He’s been playing with the national side ever since with no club and question marks surrounding his future in the game. But the 37-year-old is now officially sticking around, and hopes to make South Africa’s squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
“I see a bright future here,” he told Netwerk24.
“The players are unbelievable and if you add the Springboks to the Currie Cup team, then there’s definitely potential to gain success.”
“I want to put push hard for a position and give the coaches a headache regarding who they will choose,”
“I’m definitely not here for the money. I want to add value on and off the field.”
