Disrespectful.
Prop Cian Healy has called out Connacht for their ‘disrespectful’ behaviour in Leinster’s 47-10 loss to Connacht in the Guinness PRO14 at the Sportsground last season.
With seconds left on the clock during the game last season, and the western province leading 45-10 having just scored their seventh try – Connacht handed the kicking tee to captain John Muldoon.
The number eight was playing his final game for the province ahead of retirement, after more than 300 appearances. After the game Muldoon apologised, stating it wasn’t meant in a bad way.
“On one more note, I apologise for taking the conversion, it wasn’t meant in a bad way.” Muldoon said
Leinster were criticised on the day for their ‘aggressive charge down’, but now ahead of this weekend’s inter-provincial clash between the two, Healy has let it be known the eastern province were not impressed…
“Leave it to the kickers. I suppose, on a personal note, that was nice for him to finish off his career, but it is something you have to take a bit of offence to when you’re not taken seriously.” Healy said
Connacht meanwhile have rejected Healy’s claims.
“To be honest I didn’t really pay much attention to it. You’d have to ask Mul about that one. It was definitely something we didn’t plan on doing,” said Connacht assistant coach Jimmy Duffy.
“It just happened, it was one of those things. It had happened even before we even realised it had happened. There was definitely not a disrespectful element to it, that’s important to point out.”
“We’re just going to focus playing a quality opposition at the weekend and we’d be foolish not to.”
