Baa Baas.
England international winger Chris Ashton look set to line out for the Barbarians at Twickenham later his this month and take on his home nation.
The Telegraph are reporting that Ashton is set to be released by his club Toulon, after they were dumped out of the Top 14 finals at the quarter-final stage by Lyon. Toulon drew 19-19 with Lyon at Stade Mayol, but were eliminated after extra-time because they had scored a single try to the visitors’ two.
It was Ashton who scored Toulon’s only try on the night, taking his Top 14 tally for the season to 24 – a record in the competition, with the former Saracens man in blistering form.
Ashton hasn’t played for England since 2014, but was called up by Eddie Jones in 2016 only to miss out through suspension. His frustration led him to move to France last summer.
Many people have called for Ashton to be called back up in recent months given his incredible form. Should he line out against them next Sunday, it will certainly be interesting.
Update: It’s official. Ashton is in the Barbarians squad for next week’s game.
