Northampton Saints this morning confirmed the signing of Wasps, England and Lions flanker James Haskell on a one-year deal.
Haskell has been looking for a club ever since it was announced that Wasps weren’t going to renew his contract, with the former Highlanders man desperate to stay in England and fight for a spot in Eddie Jones’ Rugby World Cup squad.
“I’m really excited and humbled to be joining a giant of English rugby in Northampton Saints,” said Haskell.
“Having had the opportunity to play against them for many years now, I know this is a Club with a proud history and a set of passionate and loyal supporters who always make their presence felt.
“It’s no secret that I want to continue my international career for as long as possible; the only way I can do that is by putting my best foot forward in club rugby and helping Saints fight their way back into contention for silverware.
Haskell is a hell of a rugby player, and have proved himself time and time again at the highest level. But he’s perhaps even more known for his character off the pitch.
The self-proclaimed ‘Archbishop of Banterbury’ has releases a successful fitness book, has a DJ career, absolutely loves JCB’s and generally has excellent ‘chat’. And Northampton took excellent advantage of this when announcing his signing this morning…
