No need for this.
Cardiff Blues pulled off one of the great European comebacks this evening in Bilbao, as they fought back from a 20-6 deficit to defeat Gloucester 31-30 in the Challenge Cup final.
Tries from Henry Trinder and Mark Atkinson gave Gloucester the lead at the break. But Cardiff hit back with Tomos Williams’ brilliant footballing skill and Garyn Smith’s try, only for James Hanson to restore Gloucester’s lead.
But Blaine Scully’s late try in the corner and Gareth Anscombe’s nerveless last-minute penalty snatched victory for the Blues.
Referee Jerome Garces came under fire on social media for a couple of big calls that were both controversial and costly for Gloucester – but take nothing away from Cardiff, they fought back valiantly and were deserved winners.
Gloucester though – posted a needless Tweet after the game that was quickly deleted, attacking the match officials. It’s one thing being a disgruntled fan, but as a professional club, there’s absolutely no need to Tweet this.
Carry yourself with some better class. Congratulations Cardiff Blues.
