“I know how much it means to them.”
Donnacha Ryan knows exactly what it feels like to lose a European semi-final while wearing the red of Munster. The Tipperary man has been there many times before, and he knows how much it hurts.
Munster today once again fell at the second last hurdle today, but this time Ryan will indeed be playing in the final, after seeing his Racing 92 side overcome his former club 27-22 in Bordeaux.
To make matters worse for Munster, the scoreline isn’t a fair reflection of what happened this afternoon. Munster were well and truly beaten, and never looked like they were going to join provincial rivals Leinster in the final.
But Ryan once again proved he’s a class act. While he’s probably over the moon he’s reached a European final in his first season at Racing. He can’t help but feel bad for his former teammates.
“Bitterly disappointed for the lads. I know how much it means to them.” Ryan said after the game.
He’s been there. He knows the hurt. Fair play Donnacha. Top class.
