Israel Folau Posts Cryptic Message Following Criticism Of Homophobic Comment

“Blessed are ye, when men will revile you”

Israel Folua has broken his social media silence after the Wallaby fullback was heavily criticised for a horrible homophobic comment on Instagram. 

Folau caused uproar last week, over a now deleted comment in which he suggested that God’s plan for gay people was “HELL…unless they repent of their sins and turn to God.”

He has now tweeted a Bible verse which seemingly suggests that he is being persecuted for his religious views. The former rugby league star posted the following on Twitter last night:

“Blessed are ye, when men will revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

“Rejoice and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” 

The Waratahs fullback is set to meet with Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle and New South Wales Rugby CEO Andrew Hore on Tuesday to discuss his use of social media.

Openly gay referee Nigel Owens has also been critical of Folau in an excellent column over the weekend.
