Ireland have done it. For the first time in nearly a decade they can officially call themselves Grand Slam champions. And boy did they do it in some style.
From Johnny Sexton’s incredible drop-goal on the opening day, followed by three consecutive bonus-point wins at home, to smashing England at Twickenham on Paddy’s Day. This Ireland team will go down in history.
Rory Best becomes just the third Irish captain to lead his side to a Grand Slam, and it appears the man who won one before him, just made a few quid of his successor’s efforts.
Brian O’Driscoll clearly had faith in this Irish team, sticking 150 quid on them to win a Grand Slam at the start of the tournament, with 7/2 odds.
