Jamie Heaslip has been left out of Leinster’s Champions Cup squad for their opening fixtures.
The Ireland number eight hasn’t played since picking up a back injury in the Six Nations this year ahead of the final round win over England.
Interestingly the likes of Rob Kearney and Garry Ringrose have been named in the squad despite both players being on the long-term injury list, with the latter not expected back until around December.
Heaslip has been out for over six months, and was initially slated for return at the start of the PRO14 season. However, the situation with his back has regressed with Heaslip admitting last week he doesn’t know when he will return.
Leinster say it will be at least 2018 before he’s back. But his omission has cast serious doubt over his future, with some fearing the injury could prevent him from returning at all. You can see Leinster’s squad in full here.
