No harm in asking?
Premiership side Sale Sharks have reportedly had an audacious move for All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams turned down.
Sportsmail are reporting that the ambitious club had an approach turned down last week to sign the former rugby league star through a third party. The move was immediately shot down as Williams stated his intention to honour his current NZRU contract which runs until after the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Back in June Williams said that a move to England would be an attractive option before retiring.
“I’m 32 this year but thank God I’ve really looked after my body,’ he said.
“I’m contracted until I’m 34, then who knows?”
“I wouldn’t mind a year in England… I’ve always wanted to. I might have a few boxing fights, too. I could see myself playing to 35, easy.”
Sportsmail are also reporting that two other English clubs, one based in London, have asked early questions about Williams’ availability in 2019.
