Clermont have announced the signing of Leicester Tigers utility back Peter Betham on a two-year deal.
Australian international Betham has signed a two-year deal with the French side and will link up with his new club next season.
Discussing the move Clermont head coach Franck Azèma said:
“We are very pleased to be able to bring in Peter for next season and beyond. This recruitment accelerated quickly because we were in a problem with our depth at centre where we can potentially be deprived of three French internationals at certain times of the year.
“Through our recruitment network we learned that Peter could potentially be released from Leicester and join us, we seized this opportunity.
“We were looking for a versatile player on the centre and wing positions, someone combative, fast and able to play in the defences and adapt to the game we produce. Peter has that profile. He is a very complete boy, with solid experience and a lot of qualities.”
Betham said:
“I am really impressed with the club’s stadium and infrastructure, I look forward to joining a team and a working environment among the best in the world.
“Arriving here, I hope to integrate quickly and achieve to bring the best to this team who will have the ambition to go for titles in France and also in the European Cup.
“I know John Ulugia well, and Brock James who was there recently and other boys, they all told me some great things about the club and when I was contacted by Clermont, the decision to come was not very difficult to take. I also know that the supporters here in Auvergne are exceptional. I really look forward to seeing Michelin as soon as possible.”
