This one takes the biscuit.
Rumours can be vicious but thankfully some of them are so absurd, they never quite get off the ground. Bristol’s relegation to the Championship is all but confirmed, with the struggling side set to finish bottom of the Premiership.
But there is an outside chance they could yet survive after a Championship announcement that both Doncaster and Ealing did not apply for a required independent audit that assesses clubs’ promotion eligibility to the Premiership.
That however looks increasingly likely with both Doncaster and Ealing getting thrashed in the first leg of both their semi-finals, despite being at home. London Irish remain favourites to clinch promotion, but this rumour regarding the Irish exiles and Bristol is one of the best we’ve ever heard.
Neil Fissler of The Rugby Paper writes that a highly reliable source informed him the London Irish have reportedly been offered huge sums of money to to stay in the Championship by Bristol even if they win the play-offs.
“We’re still laughing at the suggestion.” Fissler writes.
It gave us a right laugh too to be fair!
