You do not mess with Doug Howlett, simple as.
If you’re looking for the complete winger, they don’t come much better than Doug Howlett. The former All Blacks and Munster star was not only lighting quick and a phenomenal finisher, but he could absolutely smash his opponents at any given moment.
Howlett bagged an astonishing 49 tries for the All Blacks in 62 Tests, but is perhaps more fondly remembered for his crunching tackles. When Howlett signed for Munster in 2007, fans of the southern province couldn’t quite believe it.
The devastating winger is one of the few superstars to come to Europe and live up to his hype and then some, winning the Heineken Cup in his first season at the Irish province. One of our all-time favourite Dougie Howlett moments however, happened just before he joined Munster.
Howlett was playing for the Auckland Blues in a Super Rugby game against the Golden Lions and got himself in a bit of a tussle with South African Earl Rose. Howlett appeared to be on the wrong end of a cheeky headbutt but ended up getting his revenge not once, but twice. Do not mess with Doug Howlett if you know what’s good for you.
