Pat Lam Is Looking To Bring An All Black With Him To Bristol

Connacht head coach Pat Lam will take over at Premiership strugglers Bristol next season.

The former Samoa captain revealed back in December that the English side made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Whether or not Bristol are in the Premiership or Championship when Lam arrives, remains to be seen. One thing is for sure though, and that is that Lam will be given all the time and resources he needs to succeed, regardless of what tier they are in.

It’s well known that Bristol have deep pockets, but their recruitment policy this season leaves a lot to be desired. What Lam brings with him, along with his excellent coaching abilities, is the fact that he can attract top talent.

Lam famously lured Chiefs captain Craig Clarke to the west of Ireland, as well as beating off interest from Leinster and Munster to sign Bundee Aki. It now seems he has another New Zealander lined up to join his latest project, in the form of All Black Steven Luatau.

The Blues back-row is set to be top of Lam’s wish list, who will use his connections within the Auckland franchise to lure him to England, having spent three years as their head coach. The 15 times capped All Black is just 25 years of age, and would be seen as a massive coup for Lam.
