This would be catastrophic.
Italy host Ireland on Saturday in round two of the 2017 RBS Six Nations, but could end up doing so without their star player and captain Sergio Parisse.
The veteran back-row was once again Italy’s shining light in a relatively poor game against Wales, which saw them crumble in typical fashion during the second-half of their round one opener with Rob Howley’s side.
Parisse suffered a neck injury in the loss, and while it is not thought to be too serious, he faces a race against time to be fit for the clash with Ireland.
Should Parisse be unable to recover, it will be seen as a massive blow for Conor O’Shea heading into the clash in Rome.
