Ronan O’Gara made his long awaited return to Thomond Park on Saturday to a heroes welcome.
The former Munster and Ireland playmaker brought his Racing 92 side to Limerick for their final pool stage match of this year’s Champions Cup. While his side didn’t get the win, they gave an excellent account of themselves, in a thoroughly enjoying encounter.
The Corkman was livid after their performance in Paris a couple of weeks ago, which saw Munster demolish his side, grabbing a bonus-point victory over the hapless Parisian side.
No doubt he saw some positive signs this past weekend, with his brutal honesty seemingly sparking something in his Racing side, who also impressed last week against Leicester at Welford Road.
The question remains however, will we see ROG back at Munster anytime soon? Speaking after the game, O’Gara believes he’s not quite there yet as a coach yet to return to his former club.
“No. Not really because I know what these nights are like. If you want to coach Munster you have to be a really good coach.
I’m not a really good coach so I have to work on that and go see how other teams and other cultures work.
“Then, when I get that right, I may be in a position to put my hand up but you’ve got to earn that.”
Brutally honest as always. No doubt he will be back at some stage, but when he’s good and ready.
