Will Greenwood has had a go with picking his Lions XV and it’s an interesting one to say the least.
The former England & Lions centre’s selection has some good picks, but some very questionable ones also, namely Leinster’s uncapped Adam Byrne on the right wing. He’s also gone with Dylan Hartley to both start ahead of Rory Best and get the captaincy.
Greenwood also named three players that he believes are guaranteed a test jersey. Conor Murray, Owen Farrell and the Wexford man himself, Tadhg Furlong are all guaranteed their starting spots says Greenwood.
Injured Saracens star Mako Vunipola also gets the nod over Ireland Jack McGrath as does Johnny Gray over the likes of Alun Wyn Jones and Devin Toner. CJ Stander starts at six and is joined in the back-row by James Haskell and Billy Vunipola
To be fair, his back-line is pretty good, bar the inclusion of Byrne. Greenwood tried to justify his selection, suggesting the wings spots are really open, but surely even he doesn’t believe the young Irish win will be lining out against the All Blacks in the first test next summer.
