Director of Rugby Todd Blackadder stated last month that he would not stand in George Ford’s way if he wanted to leave Bath at the end of the season.
The England outhalf is set to be unhappy at the Premiership club since the shock exit of his father Mike, who is now boss at Toulon. Ford has eighteen months to run on his current deal, but is said to have a break clause at the end of the season, once his remaining twelve months are bought out.
Sale Sharks are believed to be the frontrunners for his signature, with Leicester head coach Aaron Mauger also revealing they would be interested in bringing him back to the Tigers, should he come available, in the wake of Owen Williams’ departure.
The Times however, are not reporting that Bath owner Bruce Craig will block any attempts by Ford to walk away from his contract early, and will force him to see out the remaining twelve months.
Sale remain confident they can get a deal over the line however, with Northampton and Exeter also said to be monitoring the situation. Ford may have to take a legal case against Bath, given the terms of his contract state he may leave.
