Saracens have announced the signing of Wales international Liam Williams from next season on a three-year deal.
Williams, who has won 38 caps for Wales since his debut in 2012, has emerged as one of the game’s finest attacking players and can play full-back and wing. He has long been linked with a move to the English champions, with a deal finally confirmed today.
Scarlets have revealed that they did everything in their power to keep the versatile back in Wales, but respect his decision to head for pastures new. The Welsh region reportedly offered him a dual contract worth in excess of £250,000 a year.
In a statement, the talented back said he is excited about the challenges ahead.
“I am really excited about joining Saracens and having the opportunity to challenge myself in the Premiership,” Williams said.
“The club’s reputation speaks for itself and I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career. I wouldn’t be the player I am without the incredible support from the Scarlets’ management, players, back-room staff and passionate supporters.
“I will be giving my all for the remainder of the season and hope to help finish on a high.”
Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall said:
“Liam’s arrival at Allianz Park next season is fantastic news. He is only 25-years old and has his best years of rugby ahead of him.
“Liam is arguably one of the most talented backs in Europe so to have secured his signing is real coup for the club. We’ll look forward to welcoming him in the summer.”
Williams is Saracens’ second signing for the 2017 season joining France hooker Christopher Tolofua at Allianz Park next season.
