Connacht need some assistance from the IRFU after their latest injury today.
The western province went into their PRO12 clash with Osprey’s with just one fit outhalf in the form of Jack Carty, who was patched up and sent on his way as Pat Lam’s side looked to pick up a much needed win.
Unfortunately for Connacht they didn’t get the win and they now don’t have a single fit outhalf available to them as things stand. Carty went down in the first-half and looks set to miss a large chunk of the season.
The Irish playmaker suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury and is expected to be out for ‘six to nine weeks’. Depending on the extent of the injury, he could end up being out even longer.
In Carty’s absence, Lam was forced to bring scrumhalf Caolin Blade on at ten, with Connacht literally down to their bare bones in the back-line. Pat Lam revealed earlier this week that the IRFU blocked his attempt to bring in his son to play for free despite the province’s current injury crisis, because he was a foreigner.
As things stand, Connacht need a fit ten, and probably a few more backs. It’s time for the IRFU to make some exceptions to their policy and help their province out.
