Warren Gatland has narrowed the British & Irish captaincy to three candidates.

Gatland was speaking today at the official Lions coaching team unveil. Rob Howley, Steve Borthwick and Andy Farrell will be the three named tasked with assisting, with the head coach stressing that he may add further specialist coaches in the coming months.

On the topic of captaincy, Gatland has revealed that he doesn’t necessarily have someone particularly in mind as it stands, but that whoever it is, will probably be a current captain of his country leaving us with Sam Warburton, Rory Best and Dylan Hartley.

Warburton led the Lions in 2013, while Hartley has been many pundits choice in recent months. Best has excelled in his role as Ireland captain since he took it on over the summer and impressed particularly this Autumn.

“It will probably be someone who is doing the captaincy role for their country at the moment.” Gatland said.

“We will see how the Six Nations go and go from there.

“I don’t have anyone in mind at the moment but hopefully evolve over the next six months.

Who do you think should be tasked with leading the Lions in 2017?
