Lions head coach Warren Gatland has named his British & Irish Lions coaching team.

Gatland will take over the Lions for the second successive tour following his side’s series win over Australia in 2013. The Kiwi however faces much tougher opposition this time round in the shape of world champions, New Zealand.

Gregor Townsend turned down a role last week as he stated he wants to focus on his new job with Scotland next summer and go with them on tour to Australia. As a result of this Gatland has named his Welsh interim Rob Howley for the 2017 tour.

Howley is to be joined by Ireland’s Andy Farrell and England’s Steve Borthwick who will reportedly take up roles as defence coach and forwards coach respectively. Gatland also stated today that he may not name his full team today, and that there may be additions following today’s announcement.

Irish Times journalist Gavin Cummiskey is now reporting that Gatland will indeed add a second attack coach to assist Howley. Who do you think will be brought in?
