Keith Earls Reveals Munster’s Brilliant New Post-Match Tradition

Back to the good old days.

There’s been something special in the air down south ever since the tragic passing of head coach Anthony Foley. The former captain and coach embodied everything that it meant to be a Munster player and his passing has hit the province hard.

On the pitch however the squad has been inspired to kick on in his memory and remain undefeated since his passing, destroying the Glasgow Warriors and pulling off a memorable win over the Maori All Blacks on the way.

Everyone has been talking about Keith Earls’ brilliantly honest interview today, regarding Foley’s death, the impact it has had on him as a person and how he felt when he was controversially sent-off agains Glasgow.

The Limerick man is back on Irish duty this weekend and will start the wing against Australia while Munster hope to keep up their winning ways against Treviso. Should they manage to do so, Earls has revealed a brilliant new tradition that has been introduced to the changing room.

“I never enjoyed the highs, which is weird because I thought rugby was everything. [But] it’s straight on to the next week and next game.

“You never… I mean the lows are a million times worse than the highs.

“I suppose that is something that Rassie has brought in now with Munster. If we win a game, we’ll all have one drink with each other in the dressing room to celebrate the victory and enjoy the win – to enjoy the moment – and we’ll move on on the Monday.

“There’s not a lot of speaking in the dressing room straight on afterwards. Everyone is just enjoying it. Enjoying the wins is the main thing.”

It sounds reminiscent of the Anthony Foley days of old where the player’s would no doubt enjoy a drink (or three!) following every win and thoroughly enjoy them.
