Sean O’Brien is back in case you haven’t noticed.
The Leinster flanker went off with a hamstring injury at this year’s RBS Six Nations against France that ruled him out for an extended period but he has returned to full fitness in recent weeks and looks better than ever.
O’Brien made his Ireland return against Canada a few weeks back before bulldozing his way through the All Blacks this past weekend in one of his best performance’s in recent memory.
The ‘Tullow Tank’ was a menace at the breakdown and displayed his excellent ball-carrying skills that have made him one of the most feared seven’s in the world.
Former Ireland and Lions hooker Keith Wood was on Off The Ball last night and recalled an encounter with O’Brien a few weeks back that assured him the flanker was ready for action.
“I hit him in the stomach when I saw him, just for the craic, you know, because he’s a big ole guy. I was expecting for there to be something a little bit soft but it was like hitting a rock wall.
“The guy is as fit as the proverbial butcher’s dog but he has no match fitness. None.
“What he did on Saturday, that is very hard to explain how unbelievable that [performance] actually was. Some of the balls he went back to collect and those bullocking runs at the end, on the back of everything else he had done in the game, that just goes down as one of the bravest and dragging from the well [games]. That was brilliant.”
O’Brien will be looking to continue that form this weekend against Australia when he comes up against one of the best back-rows in the world featuring the likes of David Pocock and Michael Hooper.
