Gordon D’Arcy Wrote A Truly Beautiful Piece On Anthony Foley Today

A few days have passed since we first heard the news of the tragic passing of Anthony Foley.

The Munster head coach and former captain was found dead in his hotel room as the club prepared for their Champions Cup opener with Racing 92 in Paris.

Foley’s funeral will take place in Killaloe on Friday morning, with the Irish and Munster rugby legend’s remains to be flown home to Shannon Airport today and then brought to his family home in Co. Clare.

Many of his players, friend and former teammates have paid tribute to him in the wake of his sudden death on Sunday, with former Leinster and Ireland centre, Gordon D’Arcy the latest to do so in a moving article today in the Irish Times.

“Anthony would do anything for you on the field. And you wanted to do the same for him

Foley and a couple of other names we all know well were responsible for creating the Munster culture.

These men were responsible for building a club that won two European titles and will endure the testing times thrown at them by the professional era.
But with Anthony’s tragic passing Munster have lost a piece of themselves they can never replace.

The culture he helped create yielded victories in southern France that had previously been 50-point trouncings. That came from Foley, from Shannon and the AIL.”
