Plenty of positives.
Ireland made light work of Italy at the Aviva Stadium this afternoon, despite the Italians racking up their highest Six Nations points tally against the Irish in Dublin.
Joe Schmidt’s men bagged eight tries in total , with Robbie Henshaw and Jaco Stockdale among the scorers with two each in a 56-19 win. Worryingly though they lost the services of Henshaw and Tadhg Furlong to injury, with the former looking like he’s picked up a very serious one.
Here are your player ratings.
Rob Kearney – 6.5
Didn’t have a whole lot to do in defence. But never really looked a threat going forward. A lot of sideways running.
Keith Earls – 8.5
Bagged himself a try and always looked a threat. Great day at the office for the Limerick man.
Robbie Henshaw 9
Absolute monster of a performance from the Leinster centre, making his injury even more disheartening. Looks set to miss the rest of the competition but boy did he go out with a bang,
Bundee Aki – 8.5
Bagged his first try and showed excellent vision to put Earls in for his try.
Jacob Stockdale – 8.5
Johnny Sexton – 7.5
Quiet enough game for Sexton by his high standards., but immaculate once again from the boot.
Conor Murray – 9
Played a huge role in Ireland’s first three tries, grabbing one of them himself. Deserved man of the match.
Jack McGrath – 7
Rory Best – 7.5
Good solid shift from the captain. Even got himself a bit of meat!
Tadhg Furlong – NA
Went off after three minutes with a hamstring injury.
Iain Henderson – 7.5
Great cleaning out at the maul to tee up fast ball for Aki’s try. Was the go-to man to get his side over the gainline and invariably succeeded. Replaced at half-time with the job already done.
Devin Toner – 6.5
Peter O’Mahony – 7.5
Good solid shift from the Munster captain, going the full 80.
Dan Leavy – 6.5
A couple of good steals, but wasn’t much of a threat in attack. Quiet enough game.
Jack Conan – 7
Strange that he came off at the break. Played well with some lovely hands for Murray’s try.
Andrew Porter (for Furlong ‘3) – 8
Super shift from the young tighthead. Some big tackles and lots of carries.
Quinn Roux – 6
Decent shift from the Connacht man.
CJ Stander – 7
Some good carries and an excellent work rate.
Joey Carbery – 7
Nailed his conversions and set-up Stockdale nicely.
Kieran Marmion – 6
Went through the motions well.
Jordan Larmour – 6
Couple of defensive errors but showed his footwork with a nice break
