Bok slayers.
Australia have climbed above Scotland in the latest World Rugby men’s rankings following their remarkable 42-38 victory over South Africa in Perth.
The Wallabies looked to be cruising when they opened up a 42-17 lead after 65 minutes. Len Ikitau scored twice, while Ben Donaldson, Harry Wilson and Max Jorgensen also crossed as Les Kiss’s side put the world champions under pressure.
Then the match turned. Australia had four players sent to the sin bin in the final 10 minutes, leaving them with just 11 on the field at one stage. South Africa scored 21 unanswered points, but the Wallabies survived the late onslaught to extend their unbeaten run under Kiss.
The win earned Australia two ranking points and lifted them from seventh to sixth, above Scotland. They are now just 0.13 points behind England in fifth.
South Africa lost two points but remain top of the rankings, ahead of New Zealand. Ireland stay third.
