World Rugby have announced a six man shortlist for the World Player of the Year award.

The list is dominated by World Cup finalists New Zealand and Australia. The All Blacks’ Dan Carter and Julien Savea make the list alongside the Australian back row duo of Michael Hooper and David Pocock. Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw and Wales’ Alun Wyn-Jones also make the list.

Of the six nominees, only Carter has previously won the award. Savea is hoping to also win the try of the year and is nominated twice on that list for his tries in the World Cup quarter final against France.
