Joe Schmidt’s Ireland were dealt another injury blow today when it was revealed that Luke Fitzgerald would miss the entire RBS Six Nations.
Schmidt has revealed that he will not call up a replacement for the Wales game but is expected to call one up in time for the France game on February 13th. Who will Schmidt call up is the burning question however?
Gary Ringrose: Schmidt has already said that he would prefer Ringrose to remain at Leinster and continue to play regularly, instead of just making up the numbers with Ireland. With Fitzgerald now out and Ireland not exactly rich in centres, this could be a chance for Ringrose to possibly even make a matchday squad in place of Fitzgerald.
Craig Gilroy: The Ulster winger has been in fine form but been relatively overlooked since his breakout season where he was a regular in Ireland’s Six Nations side. A dynamic winger who like Ringrose, brings something different to the Irish team.
Fergus McFadden: The safe option. 29 caps and a player Schmidt knows all about. Perhaps past his best.
Stuart Olding: One for the future. Probably an outside bet considering he’s just back from injury, otherwise would have had a big shout.
Who do you think Schmidt will call up? More importantly, who do you think he should call up?
