“He embodied everything that’s good about Munster.”
Munster captain Peter O’Mahony couldn’t have put it any better. RTÉ are set to release a special documentary, entitled ‘The Axel Foley Story’ in the coming weeks, and judging by the brief clip below, it’s going to be an incredibly moving piece.
Foley tragically died last October, the night before Munster were set to open up their Champions Cup campaign. The game was immediately cancelled, with Munster’s European season postponed until the day after his funeral, in one of the most surreal games of rugby ever played.
Munster absolutely demolished Glasgow that day, even though as Simon Zebo says, they had absolutely no right to.
“We were able to bury our coach on a Friday, turn out then the next day and absolutely destroy a team when we had no right to.”
But as Conor Murray says in the clip. Munster simply HAD to do it that day.
“We wanted to do it for him, we had to to it for him.”
