If you want any man explaining to you how the new tackle laws work, it’s Nigel Owens. Arguably the best referee in the world, the Welshman has teamed up with Wales Rugby Online to create this excellent video.
Alongside the new bonus-point system and of course the customary Lions talk, the new tackle directives will be a huge talking point and area of concern throughout this year’s RBS Six Nations. All the nations will no doubt have been given special instructions by their coaching teams heading into the tournament, warning them to be aware of the consequences, should they make a dangerous and/or reckless tackle.
We’ve seen in the various competitions across Europe since the directives have come in that the officials are taking these new laws very seriously, with a massive amount of red and yellow cards being handed. No doubt players and fans alike will be arguing over decisions made in the coming weeks, but here’s a breakdown of how the laws will work thanks to Owens.
