Steve Hansen reckons Warren Gatland is set to call-up some reinforcements for his midweek squad.
The All Blacks boss believes Gatland is at the stage where he has two squads in mind, a midweek team and a Test team. We’ve seen with Gatland’s squad selections so far the difference in strength in his two teams, and in order to protest his Test players, it looks like some bodies will be called up.
There is a clear difference between the two teams, the Wednesday team and the Saturday team.” Hansen said.
There is definitely a difference between the two squads in the way they’re performing.
I think he is about to bring a few extra players out to give himself the ability to play two squads. He’s at the stage where he wants to do that.
Fullback Stuart Hogg was forced home this week with a cheekbone injury, while a number of players are carrying knocks. Owen Farrell was forced to pull out of the squad for Saturday’s game, and with set to take on the Chiefs on Saturday, an outhalf may be top of his wish list.
George Ford and Finn Russell would be the most likely players in contention, while someone like Keith Earls or Simon Zebo could be drafted in to cover the back-three.
