Warren Gatland named his Lions team for Wednesday’s game with the Blues early this morning.
Ken Owens captains the side, with now fewer than eight Irishmen picked in his squad. CJ Stander will make his Lions debut as he starts at number 8, while Peter O’Mahony will debut from the bench.
There’s no room for Conor Murray once again, but you can imagine he’s keeping the Irish nine well rested for Saturday’s big game with the Crusaders, along with England’s Owen Farrell, who should form the half-back partnership.
Sean O’Brien is also yet to feature in either squads, casting doubt over his fitness. The Leinster back-r0w has missed a number of games for club and country this season with calf/hamstring issues and recently missed Leinster’s PRO12 semi-final.
Gatland however says O’Brien is back training, but only returned for his first full session today and hence wasn’t considered. Expect to see the Tullow man starting against the Crusaders on Saturday, providing he doesn’t suffer another setback.
