Jack Crowley finally got another opportunity in the 10 shirt for Ireland yesterday – and boy did the Munsterman deliver.
Sure, he would have liked his kicking off the tee to have been better, but the 26-year-old took charge of the ship yesterday and got Ireland back to playing the kind of rugby that made them one of the world’s best.
The record win in Twickenham will live long in the memory, as will the occasion for Crowley, who knew the pressure to deliver was on after getting the nod ahead of Sam Prendergast.
And there’s one moment in particular that shows Crowley not only has the skills to do the job, but the minstrels, too.
Despite Ireland having a healthy lead, Crowley still let prop Jeremy Loughman have it for needlessly throwing a pass, which went forward and resulted in them losing possession.
The Ireland prop had an excellent game, but Crowley keeping the standards as high as possible is excellent leadership from 10.
Holding his teammates accountable, no matter the situation or lead. That’s what Ireland have been missing of late.
