Rugby is back.
The Aviva Premiership returned to our screen over the weekend with an absolutely scintillating round of rugby.
European champions Saracens made a serious statement with a 55-24 thrashing of Northampton Saints in Saturday’s Twickenham double-header. That game was followed by a massive win for newly-promoted London Irish over Harlequins.
Champions Exeter however, were overturned by Gloucester on Friday night, while it was Bath who came out on top in a thriller on Sunday, with George Ford returning to his old club for the firs time since switching over the summer.
In all there were 50 tries scored, a record as 11 of the 12 teams scored three tries or more and seven try-bonus points were picked up. This smashed the previous Round 1 record held by 2007 of 36 tries.
