This is why props aren’t allowed kick.
We hope Warren Gatland wasn’t watching Leinster and Glasgow last night. Not that he would have seen much as the entire stadium suffered a blackout, with the floodlights failing with just 90 seconds left on the clock.
He would however have seen a hilarious kick from Lions loosehead Jack McGrath once the power had been restored. With Leinster leading by just one point, and the 80 minutes up, the front-row decided to take matters into his own hands.
What occurred was a perfect example as to why props aren’t allowed to kick! Fellow front-row and Lion Tadhg Furlong was asked about the kick at UCD yesterday and he couldn’t help but grin.
“I’m not sure Jack will be trying that again any time soon,” Furlong quipped.
“He got a good bit of stick after the game.
“It was funny watching on from the stands. Well, relief when it eventually got out through Adam Byrne.
“It probably wouldn’t have happened if we were losing the game. But to win the game you can sort of afford to laugh a little bit about it.”
Scrum coach John Fogarty said Johnny Sexton was far from impressed.
“He’s got a fair bit of stick off Sexton actually, his kicking wasn’t great,” added Fogarty with a smile.
Stick to the scrummaging Jack!
