It’s pretty safe to say we’re huge Sonny Bill Williams fans here at RugbyLAD HQ.
The code-hopping superstar has pretty much done it all in rugby across both codes and will be hoping he can now reach the pinnacle on the sevens circuit with an Olympic Gold medal at this month’s games in Rio.
Williams spoke about a number of things regarding the games at a press conference this morning, including why he feels fellow code-hopper, Jarryd Hayne didn’t make the cut for the games with Fiji.
“I think for myself coming in this year, I always knew it was going to be tough but it was really hard,” Williams said.
“It’s a totally different game to 15s and Hayne just needed time.
Williams was also quizzed about his first impressions of the Olympic experience. His down to earth response drew laughter from his teammates and the gallery.
“It’s been pretty surreal just cruising around – it’s been good for the first two days, to pretty much chill and settle in. It’s funny – everything is pretty much free. And there’s a Maccas open,” Williams said.
What an absolute legend.
