Siya Kolisi saves fan in special moment after Springboks beat All Blacks

Legend.

Siya Kolisi produced another memorable moment at FNB Stadium after stepping in to help a supporter who had made his way onto the pitch following the Springboks’ victory over the All Blacks.

South Africa had just secured a 29-24 win over New Zealand in Soweto to move 2-1 ahead in the four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series when chaotic scenes unfolded on the field.

A supporter had run onto the pitch before being tackled by security personnel, but Kolisi quickly intervened.

The Springboks captain helped calm the situation before posing for selfies with the supporter as the crowd responded with huge cheers.

Moments later, another young supporter managed to make his way onto the field.

Kolisi once again embraced the moment, this time removing his matchday shorts, signing them and handing them to the youngster as a souvenir.

It capped a memorable evening for the Springboks skipper, who had just led his country to another victory over their greatest rivals.

The occasion carried particular significance for Kolisi given the history of Soweto and FNB Stadium.

“It was really special,” Kolisi said.

“We always say we won’t just say thank you in words, but through our effort. We were tested in that first 25 minutes, they came out firing, and we had to dig deep to fight our way back into it.”

Kolisi also spoke about the importance of taking the Springboks to supporters who may not normally have the opportunity to watch the world champions in person.

“They can’t afford to come and watch us play, but seeing that, and understanding the history of this place, the young people who fought so that we could be sitting here today, that’s why we wanted this game here.

“That’s what we play for, not just the people who can afford it, but everyone.”

The Springboks will now travel to Baltimore for the fourth and final Test of the series, with South Africa holding a 2-1 advantage over the All Blacks.
