Ireland edged past Italy today with a 16-9 win in a bruising encounter at the Olympic Stadium thanks to the boot of Jonny Sexton and a first-half try from Keith Earls.
Earls became Ireland’s all time leading World Cup try scorer after some superb work from Peter O’Mahony and Robbie Henshaw.
The Italians threatened in the second-half and Ireland were unable to close out the game due to some poor handling errors and indiscipline.
Ireland and France will face-off next weekend with both teams already qualified but fighting for top spot in the group.
