If there was any doubt that the England vs Australia match this weekend was a pretty big deal…
Following England’s somewhat shock defeat to Wales, the must-win match for England on Saturday has grown in magnitude despite having already been arguably the most anticipated match of the Rugby World Cup pool stage.
Defeat to the Wallabies for Stuart Lancaster’s side will make progression to the knock out stage near impossible for the hosts.
Whilst a huge television audience is expected, the place to be is among the 82,000 at Twickenham and it seems some people are getting desperate.
Ticket re-sale website Viagogo revealed that two tickets were purchased for the match at £4,000 each. They say it’s the highest price ever paid for a non-finals ticket, not just in rugby, but across all events on Viagogo’s website since it launched in 2006, including Wimbledon, The French Open and last year’s Fifa World Cup.
The previous record was £2,800, which was paid to watch Andy Murray’s Wimbledon semi-final in 2013.
