Defeat.

Ireland suffered defeat in the opening round of the 2026 Six Nations at the hands of France in Paris this evening.

Andy Farrell’s side struggled throughout, with a number of key players missing for the game as France ran out 36-14 winners.

There were very few green shoots from the game, with our player ratings reflective of that.

15. Jamie Osborne – 6
Hit a stunning 50:22 early on and did everything he could under the circumstances.

14. Tommy O’Brien – 4
An excellent player, but not international standard.

13. Garry Ringrose – 5
Barely got his hands on the ball to be honest.

12. Stuart McCloskey – 6
Some lovely touches. Put Timoney in.

11. Jacob Stockdale – 4
Some sloppy reads in defence and defeated in the air.

10. Sam Prendergast – 4
Had some lovely moments, but far too loose. At fault in part for both of France’s opening tries.

9. Jamison Gibson-Park – 7
Ireland’s best player. Did everything he could.

1. Jeremy Loughman – 6
Scrummaged well.

2. Dan Sheehan – 6
Poor by his standards, but didn’t do a lot wrong.

3. Thomas Clarkson – 5
Solid performance.

4. Joe McCarthy – 3
His worst game in an Ireland jersey. Gave away some silly pens.

5. Tadhg Beirne – 7
Assisted Milne for his try. Another solid performance with a couple of turnovers.

6. Cian Prendergast – 5
Didn’t see a whole lot from him before he was taken off.

7. Josh van der Flier – 5
Not his best day at the office. Just didn’t get a bounce of the ball.

8. Caelan Doris – 5
Made little to no ground.
