Ma’a Nonu flattens Ruben Love and proves he still has it with monster carry

Ma’a Nonu may be 44 years old, but the All Blacks legend showed on Tuesday night that the trademark power is still very much there.

Nonu came off the bench for the Sharks in their 54-0 defeat to New Zealand at Kings Park, with his appearance against his former side one of the major talking points from the second game of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour.

And despite the one-sided scoreline, the veteran centre still managed to produce one of the biggest reactions of the night.

Getting his hands on the ball during his second-half cameo, Nonu did what he has done throughout his incredible career – straightened up and went directly at the defensive line.

Unfortunately for Ruben Love, he was the man standing in the way.

Nonu powered into the All Black and sent him backwards in a huge collision, briefly rolling back the years with the type of carry that became his trademark during a legendary international career.

It capped a memorable night for the two-time Rugby World Cup winner, who had already stolen the show before kick-off by stepping forward and performing his own haka in response to his former teammates.

Nonu won 103 Test caps for New Zealand between 2003 and 2015, but on Tuesday night he found himself on the opposite side – and at 44, he proved there is still plenty of power left in those legs.
