Munster have given Anthony Foley until February to sign a new contract.
Despite recent results, Munster CEO, Garrett Fitzgerald, has insisted that Foley himself will decide if he wants to remain at Munster for another year or not.
If Foley does not sign up for a third year by the beginning of the Six Nations, Fitzgerald said that the province will then ‘review the situation’.
Ultimately, Fitzgerald wants to avoid the situation in which Leinster found themselves in last year after sacking Matt O’Connor. The Munster CEO stressed,
The point (that Leinster left it too late) is very valid, there’s a very limited number of top-class coaches available at any time around the world.
Mick O’Driscoll and Brian Walsh are said to be considering their positions, with doubts also surrounding the futures of Jerry Flannery and Ian Costello all of whom have contracts that are up at the end of the season.
